WELCOME TO THE ST. HELENS POLICE DEPARTMENT

As Chief of Police, I am pleased to welcome you to the St. Helens Police Department. Originally established in the late 1890's, the St. Helens Police Department currently employs twenty police officers, a code enforcement officer and two office specialists. The department also has a reserve unit of five volunteer officers.  Our dedicated staff serves a population of ten thousand people, covering almost five square miles. 

This web page is part of our on-going efforts to bring more effective and efficient police services to the citizens of St. Helens. The spirit of volunteerism, service to community and random acts of kindness were themes presented during a special awards ceremony for local volunteers. 

 

02/21/08 Mother Charged in Attempted Murder of Newborn

On February 21, 2008 at about 5:20 p.m. Jennifer St. John surrendered herself to the St. Helens Police Department.  The charges stem from the Valentines Day discovery of her newborn baby in a toilet at the Meadow Park Care facility.

 

02/19/08  Mother Under Investigation After Baby Found In Toilet

The Valentines Day birth of a baby girl in a bathroom toilet at the Meadow Park Care facility in St. Helens, Oregon turned into a criminal investigation as evidence suggested that the baby’s mother may have had other intentions for the child

 

01/29/08 Arrest ends string of commercial burglaries

Over the past several months officers from the St. Helens Police Department have been investigating a series of burglaries in various commercial locations. 

 

The St. Helens Police Department is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a rape suspect.  On Saturday, April 5, 2008 at about 1:30 a.m.  a young woman was near the intersection of Oakridge Street and Helens Way when she was contacted by a man driving in a dark colored vehicle. The victim was forced into the car and driven to an unknown location where she was raped.
